About Branford Magazine
Branford Magazine is the premier publication for residents, showcasing its people, history and picturesque landscape. Branford is the perfect destination for quiet and charming Connecticut living!
First settled in 1644, the shoreline town of Branford, CT has a storied history. Previously a trading post for the Dutch, Branford quickly developed into a business community, after a railroad was built in 1852. As years passed, Branford became a popular resort destination but by the mid-1900s, Branford transitioned to a quieter suburban area.
Today, Branford Center is lined with shops, restaurants and coffee shops along Main Street. With 20 miles of beaches, lakes, ponds and hiking trails, the Branford coastline is a popular destination for warm-weather visitors. The Thimble Islands of Branford are another main attraction; you can take a cruise or private charter to reach the archipelago. Branford also has six historic districts on the United States National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).
Industry in Branford mostly revolves around manufacturing, technology and pharmaceuticals. Branford is also home to two breweries: The Thimble Island Brewing Company and Stony Creek Brewery. Located close to Interstate 95, Branford is a convenient hometown for those who work in New Haven, Hartford and even New York City.
For over 30 years, the Branford Festival on the Green has attracted Connecticut families. Featuring live entertainment, arts and crafts, amusement park rides, road races and food vendors, this annual event at the picturesque Branford Town Green is the place to be on a summer weekend.
